A Journey Home

In our desire to make the holidays special, we prepared a gift for our family and friends. Together with St. Francis Square and Jubilee Evangelical Church, we organized the showing of “A Journey Home” last December 23, 2009 at the SM Megamall Cinema 10 for two viewings at 7pm and 9pm. The film stars Toni Gonzaga, Soliman Cruz and Joem Bascon and is directed by Paul Soriano. The story is about a father who lost ties with his family and is making amends after the long period of separation. Friendship, love for family and forgiveness are the recurring themes of the movie. It also emphasizes the love of God which allows people to love others. A short word of inspiration from Mr. Bong Saquing followed right after the film. He ended the night by inviting the guests to join him in a prayer, accepting Jesus into their hearts and lives.

A total of 862 guests (excluding Uplift volunteers) watched the film which received positive feedback. A lot of the people enjoyed the fact that the story is inspiring and is very true to the lives of ordinary people. We had several viewers who prayed the acceptance prayer with Bro. Bong. A guest was very thankful because her family, especially her mother, heard the gospel that night. Another viewer was convicted by the film’s message and was reminded to love her family despite the problems they encounter.

Before the guests entered the cinema, they were given Information Sheets which they were to return after the viewing. From the data we received from the guests, we found out that seven (7) need counseling, six (6) want to know more about Jesus, nine (9) need prayers, seven (7) would want to attend church and six (6) would want to attend a Bible study. Several of them wrote that the movie was beautiful, touching and inspiring. One even commented that he hopes we could produce more movies like “A Journey Home.”

Indeed, the event was a blast! We thank God for the opportunity to bring the gospel closer to many people. What a way to end the year!
