Ecological Waste Management Project

The Foundation recognizes that the external environment creates a huge impact on the psyche of a person, which has the ability to either inspire him or daunt his spirit. This realization moved the Foundation to embark on a beautification project that will boost the image of a community, with the hope of stirring the people to take further steps to improve their condition. Through its project called “Color My World”, the Foundation had initiated painting house facades in one of the depressed areas in Tramo Pasig City. If future plans will prosper, urban mass housing may be included.

In line with this beautification project is the promotion of environmental awareness and ecological management. Communities become what they are based on choices people make over a long period of time. Communities and cities have been wiped out from the map because of manmade disasters such as flooding brought about by mismanaged waste and sewerage systems. If no measures are taken to rectify ill waste management practices, this will take its toll on community in terms of health, economy and environmental safety.

To address this issue, the Uplift Movement Foundation will establish an Ecological Solid Waste Management (ESWM) System as an initial activity for environmental awareness promotion. This system shall adopt sustainable waste management practices that promote waste reduction from the source such as:
(1) use of reusable bags for shopping
(2) avoidance of small packaging materials with the use of refillable containers
(3) choice of recyclable or environment-friendly packaging
(4) reuse of materials such as bottles or cans
(5) and other methods to diminish accumulation of non-biodegradable stuffs.

Through the ESWM system, the Foundation will also educate the community on waste segregation, and will set up its own composting and recycling activities.
